Deck Mounted
Propulsion Units

Self-contained outboard propulsion for flexible and shallow-water vessel operations

Hydromaster’s Deck Mounted Propulsion Units are fully integrated, self-contained outboard propulsion systems designed for ease of deployment and adaptability. They include a prime mover, which can be a diesel engine, electric motor, or hydraulic pump/motor combination.

The vertical stem of the unit can be tilted to facilitate cleaning, inspection, and maintenance. The length of the stem can be tailored to fit your vessel’s structural requirements, and its immersion depth is adjustable, making these units ideal for shallow water conditions.

Optional acoustic soundproof canopies are available for operations requiring low noise levels, while marine-grade waterproof canopies are offered for coastal environments.

Configurations

The Original Series

With a long-standing global track record, the Original Series is renowned for its mechanical reliability and straightforward design. These rugged, gear-driven units are particularly valued in Africa, Asia, and remote deployment regions, where easy maintenance, field serviceability, and mechanical robustness are essential.

Through-Hull

In this configuration, the engine or motor is installed on deck, while the thruster is mounted in a through-hull well. The thruster can be lifted vertically using a deck crane for inspection, maintenance, or replacement. This is ideal when below-deck space is limited, yet direct access to the propulsion system remains a requirement.

Applications

Hydromaster’s Deck Mounted Propulsion Units are widely used in marine environments where portability, fast installation, or variable operating depths are critical. These systems are ideal for:

  • Inland and river ferries operating in variable-depth waterways
  • Modular pontoons and floating bridge sections requiring non-permanent, flexible propulsion
  • Emergency response and disaster relief vessels, where fast deployment is crucial
  • Utility boats, dredging support craft, and floating work platforms
  • Shallow-draft cargo vessels navigating rivers, canals, or delta zones

These units also serve as backup propulsion for vessels in construction zones, or as retrofit solutions where hull penetration is not permitted or practical.

Hydromaster’s Deck Mounted Propulsion Units combine technical reliability, field flexibility, and application versatility, making them an ideal solution for operators in challenging, shallow, or temporary maritime conditions.
